Basic Checkmate Patterns 1 of 3 - Beginner to Chess Master #24

beginner
Jerry of ChessNetworkBeginnerFundamentalsCheckmateBeginner

This is video #24 from the "Beginner to Chess Master" playlist. 5 basic checkmate patterns are illustrated via 17 examples. Are you familiar with the Back-Rank Mate, Hook Mate, Anastasia's Mate, Blind Swine Mate, and Smothered Mate? Don't worry if you haven't heard of these names. The names are not nearly as important as what the patterns look like on board! This is a 1st group of basic checkmate patterns, and in general a beginning stage to help develop our pattern recognition in the game. A couple terms are defined in this video, namely "flight square", and "intersection square".

The illustrated examples are from http://lichess.org/practice
