With this video, we are going to start a new series that is dedicated to the topic of tactics. Most games, especially at the beginner level, are decided by tactical mistakes. Therefore, a good understanding of tactics and pattern recognition is crucial to get better at chess. In this first video of the series, IM Alex Astaneh will give you a broad overview what awaits you in this series and he will also show you situations when it is worth to look for tactics and how to identify them.

Learning basic tactics will help you in two ways. It will let you take advantage of your opponent's mistakes while avoiding your own.
