How a Grandmaster Spots Chess Tactics - 100th Daily Lesson with a Grandmaster

intermediate
Avetik Grigoryan (ChessMood)Tactics

How does a grandmaster calculate tactics in chess? GM Avetik Grigoryan shares his insights on this topic.
With this, we also celebrate a century of lessons in our “Daily Lesson with a Grandmaster” series.

The position is taken from one of GM Avetik’s games, who is playing with the Black pieces. He notices an important detail in the position that could be exploited. As a result a sequence, with a lot of tactical ideas, starts and where a precise calculation is required.

Black sacrifices an exchange to remove an important defender and utilizes the pin on the a7-g1 diagonal to penetrate with the queen. This allows him to build a winning attack against the White king.
