Crafty v24.0 vs Houdini 4 Pro 64-bit - Pirc Defence (Chess Engines)

intermediate
ChessNetworkGame analysisEnginesCraftyHoudiniPirc defense

This is a game played between two chess engines, namely Crafty v24.0 and Houdini 4 Pro 64-bit. The opening played between these two chess programs was the Pirc Defense Classical System with 5.Be2. It was played with standard time controls 60 minutes with a 15 second increment. The clock times change during the video, and give the viewer an indication of the time spent on each move. What I found of particular interest between this chess computer battle was the harmonious/human-like position obtained by Houdini 4 Pro 64-bit after move 21. Its stable b4 knight was a great inconvenience to the white queenside and supported nicely by a5, its rooks were centralized on d8/e8 in anticipation of a central break, the bishop and knight were tucked away nicely on c8 and f8 respectively, and there were absolutely no structural deficiencies.

Chess software Crafty v24.0 and specifications:
12 cpus, Intel 2x6 core 2.67ghz xeon, 12gb RAM, Fedora 14 Linux

Chess software Houdini 4 Pro 64-bit and specifications:
Intel Core i7-4960x Processor Extreme Edition (15M cache, up to 4.00GHz), and is slightly overclocked to approximately 4.1GHz. Computer used is insanely fast and has a passmark rating of 5,500+. 3, 4, 5 & 6 men syzygy endgame tablebases are being used.
