During a chess game the players often struggle to find the right ideas and asking themselves: How to come up with a plan? In the first part of this series, you will learn how pawn levers can help you to find a plan in many positions. Based on practical examples we explain the purpose of pawn levers and show concrete ideas on how to use them. Since there might be situations when there are no achievable pawn levers, we will cover two other options in order to help you to come up with a plan. Playing with initiative against misplaced pieces and attacking weaknesses in your opponent’s camp. That requires that your opponent has either badly placed pieces or concrete weaknesses.

In this video, GM Alex Lenderman will show you different ideas and strategies when and why to use pawn levers.

The main purposes of pawn levers are:
- The Pawn lever can be used to fight against the pawn center or to disturb your opponent’s pawn chain.
- It can also be used in order to open-up lines or files.
- A Pawn lever could be used in order to take away the opponent’s squares as well as open up new squares for yourself. It can also be used to activate your pieces.
