In this second video on the topic of weak squares, IM Alex Astaneh is going over an instructive game and is sharing with you important aspects of the topic of weak squares that you should remember.

To get a better understanding of weak squares, ask yourself the following questions when identifying weaknesses in your or the opponent's camp:

- On which color are the pawns placed? In general, you should look for weaknesses on the other color complex.

- How advanced are the opponent's pawns? Every pawn move is a weakness and especially advanced pawns can give us good opportunities to find weak squares.

- Which pawns are missing? If pawns are missing on a file, this can lead to weaknesses along this open file.

- If your opponent is weak on the dark-squares, another important question is: β€žDoes he has the dark-squared bishop?β€œ, because that can go a long way to patching up those weaknesses.

Familiarizing yourself with those questions and looking for the answers will help you to improve your general understanding of weak squares and finally to get better in chess.
