In this video, International Master Alex Astaneh is sharing with you another popular and important opening trap called the Lolli Attack. The Lolli Attack arises out of the Two Knights Defense of the Italian game and is very similar to the Fried Liver Attack.
The Lolli attack is an aggressive opening for white when black defends with the two knights defense, however instead of immediately sacrificing the knight on f7 as in the Fried Liver Attack, white instead plays 6.d4 (instead of 6.Nxf7), sacrificing another pawn while defending the knight on g5 with the bishop whoβs diagonal is now opened.
In addition, white is ready to castle kingside which gives him another powerful piece, the rook, involved into the attack. Regardless of how black defends, white is sacrificing the knight on the f7-square and starts a very strong attack against the black king. Even though black is up in material, white has a big advantage and very high winning chances in these positions. It is very difficult to defend this attack properly and therefore you donβt want to play with the black pieces in this situation.
The focus of this video will be on the strategies and plans in the Lolli Attack demonstrated by a famous game played by Bobby Fischer, but you will also learn the difference between the Fried Liver Attack and the Lolli Attack. For many beginners the opening stage is the most exciting phase of a chess game. There are various chess tricks, traps, strategies, tips and ideas that you can use to fool your opponent. If you play the Italian game and like aggressive lines, we highly recommend knowing the Lolli Attack.
