In this video, we going to look at the so-called Blackburne-Shilling Gambit with the move 3… Nd4. A gambit is basically a chess opening strategy in which a player sacrifices material, for example a pawn or a piece, in order to achieve an advantageous position or a development advantage.

The Blackburne Shilling Gambit is used by black in the Italian opening. However the move 3…Nd4, actually is quite easy to play against as white, as it is objectively speaking not a very good move, but you need to know one thing that has caught out thousands of players over the years and that is that the pawn on e5 that black leaves undefended with his knight move should not be captured. If you do capture it, black has a very strong move and that is queen to g5.

Openings are the most exciting phase in the game of chess. There are various chess strategies, tips, tricks and traps that you can use to fool your opponent. I would not recommend it to try it as black against anybody other than relative newcomers to the game because if they take the pawn on e5, life is very good for black. But if they take the knight on d4 instead, it’s only going to be a fun game for the white player.
